Blackpool & District Canine Society

Breed: Retriever (Curly Coated)

My sincere thanks to the Committee of Blackpool for extending me this invitation. The Showground has to be one of the best in the country with perfectly laid out rings. Coupled with excellent weather conditions and my two brilliantly efficient stewards made for a most enjoyable appointment. My thanks as always to everybody who entered their dogs for my consideration and the sporting manner in which my decisions were accepted.

1st Johnstone & Stokes - Talismanic Bag of Tricks. Well balanced puppy with correct breed outline. Correct wedge shaped head with small well set ears. Dark eye with soft expression. Moderate stop and clean cheeks. Clean neck leading in to well laid shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Deep brisket with good spring of rib. Well made hindquarters with the desired moderate angulation. Standing a little over at the knee in front. In excellent coat. Moved well on a good length of stride.

2nd Tarelli’s Hunters Pride Jurajska at Tarockwood (Imp Pol). Slightly larger and longer cast than the winner. Excellent head shape with dark eye and kind expression. Deep in chest and well sprung ribcage. Strong hindquarters with good width of second thigh and well let down hocks. In excellent coat and condition. Not quite the movement of the winner.

3rd Stephens - Myosotsis Glenfiddich at Brightmeadow (Imp Nld)

JD (2)

1st Mercer & Thomas - Elkysar Black Arrow over Stormacre. Upstanding dog with good outline when viewed in profile. Masculine head with correct skull/muzzle proportions. Clean cheeks and strong jaw. Clean neck leading into well laid shoulder and correct return of upper arm. Chest deep and of correct width with elbows close to the brisket. Well sprung ribcage. Strong hindquarters - well muscled with good width of second thigh. Excellent coat texture. Moved with drive. Best Junior.

2nd Titley’s Fleetpaw Wondering Star. This dog was giving his owner a very hard time today which made him difficult to assess. He has a correctly proportioned head with dark eye and slightly aloof expression. Well laid shoulder with deep chest and elbows tight to brisket. Well sprung ribcage. Hindquarters are well made - I would prefer a little more width of second thigh. Moved soundly.

1st Stephen’s Brightmeadow Never Say Die JW. Excellent overall balance and presents the correct breed outline when viewed in profile. Head and muzzle of correct proportions with slight stop and small ears set slightly above the level of the eye. Clean cheeks with no sign of coarseness. Neck of moderate length - strong and free from throatiness leading to a well laid shoulder and corresponding length of upper arm. Deep chest with elbows tight to the brisket. Correct spring of rib leading to short loin with slight tuck up. Strongly made, well muscled hindquarters with good width of second thigh. His coat is as the breed dictates - a mass of small tight crisp curls and in perfect condition. Presented and handled to perfection. CC and BOB.

2nd Mahon & Newton’s - Curlabull New York Jet ShCM. Another quality dog who is well made all through. Correctly proportioned head with dark eye and kind expression. Well laid back shoulder. I would prefer a little more length in upper arm. Deep chest with well sprung ribcage and short loin with slight tuck up. I would like a little more bend of stifle. In excellent coat and condition and shown to advantage. Very worthy of his RCC today.

3rd Lacey’s Fleetpaw First Officer. Completed a trio of quality dogs.

PB (1)

1st Bett’s Talismanic Star Appeal. Excellent overall balance presenting the correct outline. Feminine head with correct skull and muzzle proportions. Eye of the correct shade for her liver coat. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Depth of chest correct for her age with well sprung rib and short loin. Really scores in her hindquarters - with good width of second thigh, low hocks and correctly turned stifle. In excellent coat. She moved well and with confidence. BP.

JB (1)

1st Lacey’s Fleetpaw Reach For The Stars. Up to size and a little longer cast than I would ideally prefer. Having said that she is very well made all through. Head of correct proportions with dark eye and correct ear set. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder. I would like a little more length of upper arm. Deep chest with well sprung rib. Strong hindquarters which she used to advantage on the move. Coat of good texture.

PG (2)

1st Mercer & Thomas - Curlabull Dark Skies Over Stormacre. I liked this bitch and she pressed hard in the challenge. Excellent overall balance with correct outline. Correctly proportioned head with slight stop and clean cheeks. Clean slightly arched neck leading to well laid shoulder. I would like a little more length of upper arm. Deep chest with well sprung rib. Short loin with slight tuck up. Scores in her hindquarters - well muscled, good width of second thigh and correct hock placement. Coat of the correct texture. Moved with drive.

2nd Spraggins - Maycourt Hot Love At Tusepo. Good overall balance with pleasing head and expression. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Chest of good width and depth leading to well sprung rib and short loin. A little straight in stifle and would like to see more drive on the move. Coat of good texture.

1st Gill & Peake’s Kelsmere Kasscade at Saxonholme. There is absolutely nothing exaggerated about this bitch in anyway. She is well balanced and has the correct outline when viewed in profile. Her head is of the correct wedge shape, with slight stop and parallel planes. Dark eye with slightly aloof expression. Strong slightly arched neck leading to an excellent lay of shoulder and corresponding return of upper arm. Chest of correct width and depth with elbows tight to the brisket. Well sprung ribcage with short strong loin. Excellent in hindquarters with good width of second thigh and well placed hocks. Coat a mass of crisp curls of excellent texture. On the move she covered the ground well. Delighted to award her her first CC.

2nd Findlow’s All I Ever Wanted Golightly With Roughyeds (Imp LVA). Smaller in size than the winner but well balanced all through and within the standard. Pleasing head and expression. Not the forehand construction of the winner and slightly finer in bone. Correct rib and loin proportions. Well made hindquarters. Good coat texture. Moved soundly.

3rd Eden’s Kandrelli Eleonora’s Falcon

OB (3)

1st Phillips & Harris - Sh Ch Tessmene Diamond At Dawn at Gladrags JW. A very worthy titleholder who sadly today was not in her best coat - which although I am not a coat fanatic it is so very important for this breed. Excellent outline with true head and expression. Clean neck leading to well laid shoulder and return of upper arm. Deep chest with well sprung rib and short loin. Strong hindquarters. Won this class on her movement and later the RCC.

2nd Whitehead’s Sh Ch Kelsmere Kamana for Foxriever ShCM. Another worthy titleholder. Well balanced all through. Pleasing head and expression. I would like a little more strength in her neck. Well laid shoulder with deep chest and elbows tight to the brisket. Correct spring of rib and short strong loin. Well muscled hindquarters - just fractionally straighter in stifle than I would prefer. In excellent coat and condition. Moved soundly.

3rd Cooper & Denbigh - Caballus Keep Left To Malanis (Imp Fin)
