Midland Counties Championship Dog Show 25/10/18

It is a great privilege to have both a numerically high entry combined with quality. I was extremely humbled to have the opportunity to judge so many lovely dogs and bitches. Sincere thanks to all of the exhibitors for their support, to Midland Counties Championship Show for inviting me to judge and also to my two stewards who were a pleasure to work with. I truly enjoyed every minute of my day.

MPD (11, 2Abs)

1st Dudkowiak Dolbia’s Inky Black

Such a classic black, lovely head with correct proportions, kind gentle expression, super neck, adequate spring of rib for age, super topline and tailset. Well made throughout, with good bone and neat feet. Has a lovely outline with enough scope for future development. On the move he had good reach and drive with good tail carriage. In good coat and condition

2nd Druggan’s A Sense of Pleasure’s Get Lucky (Imp Deu)

Another classic black where similar remarks apply, 6 month baby, lovely head of correct proportions, well made throughout, super topline, well developed quarters and presents a lovely outline stood, pushed hard but just preferred the tail carriage of the winner on the move. In good coat and condition.

3rd Grummitt’s Suttonpark Phoenix at Manorwell

PD (13, 3abs) Super class of puppies

1st & BPD Casey & Jayes Sandylands Hit the Road

Won this class on his clean and precise movement. He has a pleasing head of good proportions, good pigment and kind expression, excels in neck and shoulders with lovely clean outline, super topline and tailset, well developed quarters with good muscletone, he appeals overall for his balance and scope. Needs to fill his frame but he is right for his age, he excels on the move with an effortless profile gait and moves true fore and aft.

2nd Metcalfe’s Carromer Jack Flash to Baileydale. Lovely puppy with beautiful head and expression, super pigment, well made throughout, good spring of rib, well developed quarters. Carries a heavy coat but also for me was carrying a fraction too much weight as had a significant roll which affected his topline on the move. Moved well otherwise and another lovely puppy.

3rd Druggan’s Mafia Lab’s Taboo Webster at Balladoole

JD (13, 3abs)

1st Druggan’s A Sense of Pleasure’s El Toro at Balladoole

Black dog in tip top condition, I wouldn’t want his head any stronger but he has a kind expression, good reach of neck, correct angulation front and back, strong topline, good spring of rib, good bone and feet. In good coat and condition and presents a balanced outline. Moved well.

2nd Rawlinson & Balshaw’s Halshimoor Pitch Battle at Shanorrell – two different types here and perhaps preferred the scope of this yellow. He has a pleasing head and expression although would have been better if he had used his ears. Super reach of neck, good front, firm topline, well developed quarters with good muscle tone. Cleaner in outline than the winner but on the day not quite as co-ordinated on the move.

3rd Cain’s Hannabee Rocket Mission

YD (5, 1abs)

1st Key’s Keydella Koko – Chocolate boy who was full of beans, pleasing head and expression with excellent pigment, scored in neck, shoulder and topline. Good spring of rib without any excess weight, well developed quarters and in good coat and overall condition. Moved well.

2nd Haslam’s Manorwell Buckskin at Lynquest JW – another nice dog who for me was a bit heavy and this showed on the move, he has a pleasing head with kind gentle expression, good reach of neck, well made throughout, good spring of rib, handler needs to watch as he tends to dip his topline behind the withers which just spoils his outline. Moves out well showing good reach and drive

3rd Crellin’s Aalincarrey Spooky

GD (3)

1st King’s Linthwaite Excalibur – thought this dog looked really well on the day presenting a balanced outline standing and on the move, masculine head with kind and gentle expression, good reach of neck, with well laid shoulders and good length to upper arm, good spring of rib, firm topline, well developed quarters and moved with a good stride.

2nd Thompson’s Meadowline Mi Chico – loved the head on this dog, masculine with a kind expression, super through neck and shoulders, good spring of rib, good bone. Moved very well also but just preferred balance of the winner

3rd Perkins Keeninspires Houdini

PGD (9, 3abs)

1st Braddon’s Trendlewood Born to Run JW – such a lovely masculine head with a kind and gentle expression. He is a lovely dog to go over but somewhat frustrating as he didn’t seem to make much of himself today when it came to final look round. Good reach of neck with correct front construction, good spring of rib, super topline, excellent quarters and muscle tone. In such good coat and condition. He is a really good moving dog but perhaps needs a longer striding handler to get the very best out of him. Considered for higher honours but just didn’t quite have the showmanship of the principal winners on the day.

2nd Johnsons Cremino Chilly Pepper ShCM – I just love the personality of this dog, he has a lovely head, it’s not quite masculine enough to be critical but he has an endearing expression which is true Labrador and makes you smile. He has a super outline, so clean and balanced from any angle, super reach of neck and strong topline, good spring of rib, well developed quarters, very active dog who moves really well when settled. Another who was in good condition.

3rd Ellis & Matulla’s Dolwen Coleman JW

LD (12,6abs)

1st Dudkowiak’s Dolbia Ever So Clever – this kennel really do have some 1st class dogs, loved the head on this boy, correct proportions, good pigment with a kind and gentle expression yet masculine. Excels in neck and shoulders, firm level topline, good spring of rib, well developed quarters , good bone and feet, in super fit condition, he lacked some coat which would have finished the picture but he was completely balanced. He is active and agile on the move with good reach and drive.

2nd Felton-Page Marshwiggle Mr Carson JW - Lovely head on this yellow, broad, clean cut with good length to muzzle and a kind and gentle expression, super reach of neck into well placed shoulders, well made throughout, good spring of rib, excellent topline, well developed quarters with excellent muscletone. He has deepened in body since I last judged him which has just altered his balance a fraction. In good coat and condition. Moved well

3rd Ayres – Ramsayville Reflection of Musubi JW

OD (14, 3abs) A complete honour to judge such a lovely class

1st Bailiss Sh Ch Tissalian Hi Jack JW – top quality dog with such a beautiful head, sufficiently broad skull, clean cut, correct proportions, superb pigment and such a kind a biddable expression which is synonymous with the breed. Probably would be described as fairly modern in type but has a lovely clean neck, well laid shoulders, would prefer a fraction more length to upper arm to be critical, chest is of good width, good spring of rib, lovely topline and tailset, short coupled with well developed quarters. In tip top condition and lovely to watch on the move. Delighted to award him the RCC

2nd Coode’s Ch Warringah’s Perth JW ShCM – this dog is more old fashioned in type than the winner and I would prefer him a fraction bigger all over; but when compared to the breed standard he is an honest top quality dog with many virtues. Like the winner he also has a lovely head, sufficiently broad enough in skull, correct proportions, superb pigment and another with a typical kind and biddable expression. Super reach of neck, long well laid back shoulders, good width to chest with good spring of rib, lovely topline, short coupled with well developed quarters and excellent muscletone, in super fit condition. Moved steady and true

3rd Cain’s Sh Ch Southridge Sky Rocket to Hannabee

VD (4, 2abs)

1st Woodley’s Sh Ch Secret Moment at Alkhamhurst – when this dog is on top form there is no denying him the top spot and today was no exception. He is so well balanced and all male without being overdone anywhere. Just loved his clean outline with a superb topline and tailset; he flows from nose to tail. Loved his masculine kind head, all male but not a hint of coarseness, good pigment, kind eye and that typical Labrador expression – intelligent and biddable with a hint of character, correctly balanced head, broad enough with good length of muzzle. Super reach of neck, correct front assembly, Well ribbed back and short and strong across the loin, well developed quarters with good second thigh. His movement was effortless, covering the ground with such a free easy gait. In super coat and condition. Delighted to award him the CC & BVIB

2nd Thorpe’s Taph’s Tango JW - a genuine old fashioned honest yellow Labrador and was a pleasure to judge him again as a veteran. Lovely head with kind gentle expression, good reach of neck, correct lay of shoulder, level topline, short coupled, well muscled quarters. Like his overall make and shape. In good coat and condition and moved well with good drive

MPB (19,6abs) Super class of promising babies

1st Minchella’s Abbeystead Psion at Haslorhill – my notes say wow! I just loved her outline, super quality classic black with my kind of head, so pretty and feminine with not too broad a head, lovely length of muzzle, head proportions exactly what I was looking for in a minor puppy bitch. Such a super clean neck and topline, enough rib for age, good leg to body ratio, lovely bone and feet, well made throughout and moved really well.

2nd Grummitt’s Suttonpark Sweet Revenge at Manorwell – completely different type to winner and a slightly heavier stamp but a quality puppy. Lovely head and kind gentle expression, lovely reach of neck, well angulated front, firm topline, good spring of rib, well developed quarters. Completely balanced and moved very well.

3rd Metcalfes Princess Leia to Baileydale (Imp ITA)

PB (13,4abs)

1st & BPIB Reynolds Carromer Shimmering in Pink – what a star, ultra feminine quality bitch, beautiful head of correct proportions, excellent pigment with a kind and gentle expression, super reach of neck, well angulated front, good spring of rib, super topline and tailset, well developed quarters. Such superb balance and beautiful clean outline. In beautiful coat and condition and very moved well. She has everything to take her to the top I am sure.

2nd Braddon’s Trendlewood Dunnabbey Ten Out of Ten – another lovely bitch, also with pretty head and kind gentle expression. Lovely reach of neck, well made throughout, good topline and tailset, well developed quarters. In good coat and condition and moved really well.

3rd Casey & Jayes Sandylands High Time

JB (25,7abs)

1st Hodge’s Naiken Dance Rhythm JW – top quality black who I considered for higher honours. Lovely head, feminine with correct proportions, kind and gentle expression with the typical intelligent expression of the breed. Super reach of neck, well angulated front, good depth and width to chest, good spring of rib, strong firm topline, good tail set, well developed quarters, loved her outline and balance. Moved really well with good reach and drive.

2nd Kings’s Linthwaite Indiana – pretty head on this yellow with kind and gentle expression. She is well made, with good reach of neck, level topline, good spring of rib, well developed quarters. Handler needs to stand off her more as tends to make her throw her head back too far which just spoils her outline. She scores on the move though with really good ground covering movement showing good reach and drive.

3rd Coode’s Warringah Timouron Cooladdi

YB (13,3abs)

1st Reynolds Carromers Classy Read – not a big bitch but classic with lovely outline, such a feminine head and kind expression. Good reach of neck, well angulated front, good spring of rib, held her topline well, well developed quarters and in super coat and condition. Moved really well.

2nd Shirton’s Woolman’s Proper Enchanting – another with a very pretty feminine head and kind expression. Lovely flow through neck, topline to tip of tail, good spring of rib, well developed quarters with good bone and neat feet. Moved well

3rd Percival’s Wynfaul Vickers JW

GB (11,4abs)

1st Rowley’s Treantagh Dolly Rainbow – pretty head on this yellow bitch, correct proportions and kind and gentle expression, good reach of neck, well angulated front with good spring of rib, firm level topline. Well developed quarters, in good coat and condition and moved with good extension.

2nd Britton’s Bowstones Windchime – lovely type of black, pleasing head and expression, good reach of neck, well laid shoulder and good length to upper arm, good topline but had a slight ridge over the shoulder which just spoilt her outline a fraction, well developed quarters and covered the ground well on the move.

3rd Shirton’s Woolman Proper Dream Maker

PGB (17, 7abs)

1st King’s Mikmaqlabs Cheyenne – won this class on her overall balance, head not particularly to my taste but has good proportions and kind expression, good reach of neck and well placed shoulders, strong firm topline, good spring of rib, well developed quarters. Good height to length ratio and scope. Covered the ground well on the move

2nd Thorpe’s Taph’s Sizzling Sophie JW – have judged this girl before, she has matured and is perhaps a fraction heavier in type now than I would prefer. Pleasing head and expression, well made throughout, good topline and in good coat and condition. Moved with drive.

3rd Newton’s Meadowline Mad About You for Ralyville

LB (31, 10abs) – A super class, with many super quality bitches going cardless.

1st Mitchell’s Afinmore Ardmore – Chocolate bitch who is top quality in my opinion, she is up to size for sure but so well balanced, I loved her head which was feminine with lovely pigment and a kind gentle expression. Loved her clean outline. Super reach of neck with correct front construction . Superb topline and tailset; she flows from nose to tail. Well ribbed back and short and strong across the loin, well developed quarters with good second thigh. Her movement was effortless, covering the ground with such a free easy gait. In super coat and condition. Delighted to award her the RCC

2nd Carpanini’s Carpenny Virginia – Beautiful head on this yellow bitch, so pretty, correct proportions, super reach of neck, strong firm topline, good spring of rib, well made throughout, good bone and feet, super clean balanced outline. Just felt she lacked coat and finish of the winner but a beautiful bitch who moved well to secure 2nd in a lovely class.

3rd Johnson’s Cremino Crushed Ice

OB (16,4abs) As with Open dog again such a honour to have so many beautiful bitches in this class. Some lovely bitches cardless really due to nitpicking.

1st Casey & Cavallo’s Sh Ch Lembas Kiss Me Kate at Moyglass – probably no surprise that this bitch would be completely my cup of tea. So pretty and feminine and just loved her clean outline; she flows from nose to tail. Loved her head, good pigment, kind eye and that typical Labrador expression – intelligent and biddable with a hint of character, correctly balanced head, broad enough with good length of muzzle but yet so completely feminine. Super reach of neck, well laid shoulders, good spring of rib, well ribbed back and short and strong across the loin, well developed quarters with good second thigh. Her movement was effortless, covering the ground with such a free easy gait. In super coat and condition. Pleasure to award her the CC & BOB. She looked a complete picture in the group and I was delighted to see her awarded Group 4.

2nd Woodley’s Sh Ch A Sense of Pleasure’s Ylvi at Alkhamhurst (Imp Deu) – super quality black, lovely head with kind expression, super clean neck, well angulated front, firm topline and another that flows from head to tip of tail, good spring of rib, well developed quarters. Beautiful outline both standing and on the move. In excellent coat and condition and moved really well.

3rd Rawlinson & Balshaw’s Sh Ch Shanorrell Soiree at Halshimoor

VB (7,1abs)

1st Rogers Woodmist Saffron – such a beautiful bitch and a favourite of mine, at 11 years old she still has it all. Her head is just beautiful, correct proportions, completely feminine and she has such a kind and gentle expression. Superbly made throughout and still moves well.

2nd Dodd’s Sh Ch Brockburrow Breaking Dawn – another lovely bitch perhaps a fraction heavier in head than I would prefer but she is quality throughout, well made, with good topline, super coat and tail. Moved well but her matronly underline just affects her balance slightly.

3rd Lennox & Morgan’s Wilenmory Armani Diamond JW
