Cesky Terriers  – Judge Colin Richardson

Cesky Terriers

It is always a delight to judge this lovely breed and I would like to thank the exhibitors for allowing me to evaluate their Ceskies.   I congratulate the UK breeders on the progress made in stabilising the breed in the UK; certainly, type is improving with a paucity of thick back skulls compared to 10 years ago.

Temperament was generally good, however as I am rather tall, some were a little apprehensive. Presentation was good, all dogs presented in a clean, hard physical and well-trimmed condition. I believe that generally the breed is in good shape and has progressed well.

Puppy Dog (1, 0 abs)

1st & BP  England’s Ashleyheath Koruna Kash. A lovely young man who I hope fulfils his early promise, spot on for size and balance. Head of correct proportions with good ear set and expression. Strong jaw with scissor bite. Elegant neck set on very good forehand, good length of rib and correct topline. Good rear angulation and well muscled. Moved well once he settled.

Post Graduate Dog (1, 0abs)

1st England’s Ashleyheath Blackenrain 4-year-old dog of pleasing outline and shape. Powerful head with good muzzle length. Ear set OK. Nice length of neck flowing into well laid shoulders. Good topline, would prefer a slightly lower tailset. Well angulated rear. Was unsettled on the move at first, needs to concentrate on the job in hand. In the challenge he moved with drive.

Open Dog (4, 1 abs.)

What a lovely class to judge. Some cracking males today with two 4 year olds and one 3 year old, youth had to give way to maturity but there was no shame in that. Three good specimens of the breed. All had masculinity without any coarseness. Fit the standard so well and now the breed has CCs, they would be worthy champions. The third dog still has brindling in his coat which hopefully will clear.

1st, Best Dog England & Burrage’s Ashleyheath’s Black Thunder .  A dog of 4 years and of the highest quality.  He strode around the ring as if he owned it. Masculine head of excellent proportion. Correct ear size & set. Powerful jaw with correct bite. Lovely expression from dark eye. Flowing neck with excellent forehand. Good length of rib and correct shaped rib cage. Good topline and tailset. Lovely rear angulation, moved with drive and purpose. Immaculately presented.

2nd & RBD. Samson’s Shasgav You’ve Been Framed ShCM. Another cracking male who fits the standard so well. Similar remarks apply to him as to the winner. This boy ran the winner very close. Could well change places on another day.

3rd  Tobijanski Miloslav. Judged this lad as a youngster a couple of years ago and made him best puppy in a strong entry. He has matured on well, needs to settle on the table.

Puppy Bitch (1, 0 abs)

1st    Tobijanski’s Janski Cariad. Apprehensive on the table. 7 1/2 months old young lady. Head of correct proportions with good earset and correct bite. Pleasing length of neck flowing into a good forehand. Topline OK for one so young. Once she settled, moved well. Up to size.

Junior Bitch (2, 0 abs) 13 month old litter sisters.

1st, RBB Samson’s Sound of Silence. Very nice type with well-proportioned head with good earset. Strong teeth and good underjaw. Nice length of neck which flowed into good shoulder placement and forehand. Oval brisket and lovely length of loin.  Moved with correct Cesky movement, went around the ring as if she owned it. Should mature on and trouble the best when she matures a little more. Could not be denied RBB today in a strong bitch line up.

2nd Burrage & England’s Shasgav Nothing Else Matters by Ashleyheath. Litter sister to winner. Slightly bigger than sister but similar remarks apply. The breeders are to be congratulated on a very pleasing litter, well done. She moved well once she settled but her sister was in sparkling form.

Post Graduate Bitch (3, 0,)

1st  Williams & Jackson’s Euphoriastaff Celeste at Wherrypoint. I saw this bitch ringside as a young puppy last year and she has matured on beautifully. Certainly the ‘find’ of the day, won this class with something to spare. Now if you can just get her a bit more animated then in my opinion she has the quality to make up. Feminine head of correct proportions with parallel plans and skull shape Strong foreface and good underjaw. Earset OK. Correct length of neck which was set on a good front assembly.  Good length of rib cage and loin and she held her topline standing and on the move.  Moved smoothly but needs to be more animated to complete the picture.

2nd Burrage’s Komidion Prima Donna of Sametova 16-month-old youngster who was well presented as one would expect from this kennel. Unfortunate to meet the winner of this class. Feminine head with scissor bite and large teeth. Forehand OK as was body shape. Length of loin and topline correct with good rear angulation.   Hope the brindling clears soon.

3rd Samson’s Shasgav My Immortal

Open Bitch (1, 0 abs)

1st, BB & BOB. Burrage’s Vandell Sweet Song of Sametova Sh.C.M.  I have judged this bitch before and given her RBIS and a Group; she did not disappoint today. This 11 year old bitch was presented in immaculate condition and is of excellent type and size. Lovely head of excellent proportions, with correct bite and powerful jaws. Good lay back of shoulder, good length of rib cage and depth of chest with well angulated rear. Correct tail set. Moved well with good front and rear extension. Went around the ring demanding to be seen.
