Mastiff

Bath Canine Society 2017

Firstly, I would like to thank the committee for the invitation to judge Mastiffs at this delightful venue and thanks and appreciation to my friendly and efficient ring stewards. The weather was good for us humans it was a little warm for our exhibits, thankfully we only had to contend with the morning sunshine and had the deep shade and a breeze created by the marquees for the duration.  Overall the quality of exhibits was good; my only criticism would be some of the exhibits could benefit from more ring training!

3.0 PD, 1st Hazelwood’s - Craiglestone Lord Thudfoot. Fawn boy of 7mths & very much a baby at present, but showing promise having the raw attributes of a good example of the breed at this tender age. Clean head with similar eye rims/shape, not overdone in any way. Lovely body length to height ratio showing good depth of brisket and level topline held by good confirmation fore & aft all on top of excellent strong straight bone. Moved well if slightly reticent on the day! BP. 2nd Chapman’s - Karysmore Coopers Comet. Apricot just under 8mths smaller framed, neat pup with stronger head planes than 1 a lovely expression and clean eye. Not the length of my winner but well-balanced quarters and strong bone, good movement & happy disposition, yet to mature behind! 3rd Sakas & Murray’s - Saxon Mayfars Maximus De La Villa Bel Air.

1.0 JD, 1st Sakas & Murray’s - Saxon Mayfars Maximus De La Villa Bel Air. Fawn boy just 6mths old very much a baby in stature, substance and ring presence at this stage. Good confirmation fore and aft level topline and excellent dense mask pigment. Good movement once he got into stride; would benefit from more ringcraft to bring out his temperament in the ring.

4.1 LD, 1st Norris’s - Darkling Muddy Waters at Hexnorden (A.I.) Aus Imp. 4yr old masculine dark fawn of substance, with strong head and contours in profile. Good pigment to mask and nails. Strong level topline with good conformation front and behind both static and on the move. Good width of brisket and spring of rib, all held up on solid bone. Would prefer a taller version of him to give more stature in the ring but moved with confidence and surefootedness. Shouts mastiff RCC. 2nd Miller’s – Mullak Handsome Hugo. Large brindle almost 5yrs good sized dog throughout with moderate angulation for & aft showing strong topline with length of body. Wide head showing depth; would just prefer a little more stop to finish. Well boned and moved well. 3rd Clark’s – Cwmtysswg Madoc.

3.2 OD, 1st Zadeh’s - Ch Faynad Frankincense. 2 ½ yr old dark brindle boy of good size and shape, showing overall balance, form and style. Clean structured head with lovely planes, expressive, kind, dark eyes. Excellent overall dark, dense pigment, good reach of neck into well laid shoulders. Level topline flowing from one component to the next. Straight wide front with strong bone and depth of brisket carried through underline to moderate hind angulation. Good width to rib, moved out with vigour coming and going with addition of a balanced stride, showing lovely silhouette both in the breed and group ring! CC & BOB. Passed the vet check with flying colours.

0.0 PB.

1.0 JB, 1st Zadeh’s - Faynad Storm Imogen. Well grown 15mth dark brindle girl of good length, moderate angulation fore & aft with good bone, deep and wide in body for age. Head at present needs to catch up with body to give a more balanced picture but skull has time to broaden. Moved well with good steady temperament.

5.2 PGB, 1st Bowdery’s - Morganleyfay All Hallows Eve. Medium sized fawn girl of 19mths. Balanced, honest bitch with clean lines and head planes. Everything there in moderation, topline, angles and pigment with clear, well-shaped eyes. Sound in temperament but rather erratic on the move sound in temperament and movement just needs training to complete the picture. 2nd Gitting’s - Cwmtysswg Nell Gwyn. Large 2yr old dark brindle of substance, good angulation fore & aft body of great depth and length, nice head with excellent pigment, showing soft expressive eye. Moved well, held topline level on the move. 3rd Hazelwood’s - Summer Storm of Craiglestone.

4.0 LB, 1st Facey’s - Hexnorden Everlong for Nordicface. Feminine fawn bitch of 21mths with a well-balanced outline and good confirmation throughout showing well angulated quarters fore and aft. Solid level topline with good length to depth ratio. Nicely structured head with good pigment and clean eye. Well let down in chest with width of brisket. Still maturing to effect. Moved with some vim and verve with excellent reach and drive which was nicely maintained with confidence and manner, showing good ring presence CC. 2nd Zadeh’s - Faynad Don’t Cha Annie. Pale fawn girl of size and substance. Flowing outline and well-balanced for such a large bitch. Good sized head of width with soft fine wrinkling and kind eye. Nice outline with level topline and balanced angles held up by strong bone. Good length and depth to body throughout with spring of rib, width of brisket and depth of loin. Lacking in confidence today but movement sound when she did stride out. Promising bitch which would benefit with training to show herself off to best effect. Lovely breed type RCC. 3rd Harding’s - Mulaloo Midnight Moonbeam.
