"Joint Whippet Clubs' Championship Show"

Breed: Whippet

The Whippet Club of Scotland

Joint Whippet Clubs’ Championship Show 26th August 2017

It was a privilege to Judge at this well run show with such a very friendly atmosphere and with such a lovely entry in number and quality. The Secretary and her team were most welcoming & I had two very efficient stewards in Agnes May-Pollock and Robin Pollock, overall making my day a most enjoyable one.

The quality of this large entry was very good making for some very difficult decisions on the day & with some very full classes it would have been easy to award many more cards. The limit bitch class in particular was one where 10 cards wouldn’t have gone amiss in my opinion & I feel very lucky to have had classes such as this, & others, to judge.

I still have some niggles about a few heads in the older classes, including teeth and bite, as I am conscious that this contributes to part of the function of the breed as does of course the front angulations in the placing of the lay of shoulder and upper arm. Not too many over exaggerated rears presented but without the correct lay of front the balance through is lost.

Movement on the whole was good, but a few did jinx a little on the wooden floor, but again without this overall balance throughout, the foot placement and ease of movement is not so evident.

2nd    McKenzie – Courtborne Timmy At Aberlake (imp. Nor);    another curvy & smart baby presenting a good overall picture with good angles front and back. Lovely head into a good neck, lovely for length & depth of body for age flowing into good rear quarters but was just a little exuberant on the move today.
