Joint Whippet Clubs’ Championship Show 26th August 2017
It was a privilege to Judge at this well run show with such a very friendly atmosphere and with such a lovely entry in number and quality. The Secretary and her team were most welcoming & I had two very efficient stewards in Agnes May-Pollock and Robin Pollock, overall making my day a most enjoyable one.
The quality of this large entry was very good making for some very difficult decisions on the day & with some very full classes it would have been easy to award many more cards. The limit bitch class in particular was one where 10 cards wouldn’t have gone amiss in my opinion & I feel very lucky to have had classes such as this, & others, to judge.
I still have some niggles about a few heads in the older classes, including teeth and bite, as I am conscious that this contributes to part of the function of the breed as does of course the front angulations in the placing of the lay of shoulder and upper arm. Not too many over exaggerated rears presented but without the correct lay of front the balance through is lost.
Movement on the whole was good, but a few did jinx a little on the wooden floor, but again without this overall balance throughout, the foot placement and ease of movement is not so evident.
1st Heads – Demerlay Snowy Owl; presented a lovely overall picture of flowing lines & very correct angulation front & back. The most lovely head & expression with a good length of neck and body which was well ribbed back and sufficient depth. A little unsettled at times but could not be denied this class.
2nd McKenzie – Courtborne Timmy At Aberlake (imp. Nor); another curvy & smart baby presenting a good overall picture with good angles front and back. Lovely head into a good neck, lovely for length & depth of body for age flowing into good rear quarters but was just a little exuberant on the move today.
3rd Purvis & Johnston – Danluke Death By Chocolate For Rheagar.
1st Newton’s – By Design Of Nevedith; Such a curvy puppy of flowing lines with lovely angles over his shoulder & upper arm with a nice head & a good length of neck. Hands flow over him on examination, he has correct length & depth of body flowing into an unexaggerated, correct rear end. Moved out well if a little unsteady at times but he is still a lovely, baby puppy. BPD and BPIS.
2nd Russell’s – Glantam Genesis; another curvy puppy of good size and overall angulation, nothing exaggerated and presenting a lovely picture stood. Lovely head & expression, good length to neck, body, well ribbed back and with depth flowing into curvy rear quarters. Again slightly unsteady on the move but this will come with maturity.
3rd Poole – Edenwhip Quantum Of Solace.
1st Howgate & Hulls – Palmik Whisper Again J.W; headed a very nice class of youngsters, shapely lad from his good head to his curvy rear. Good length & breadth of neck into a well laid front, correct length & depth of body, well ribbed back, shapely underline flowing into good rear angulation. Nicely conditioned youngster who moved out well.
2nd Winders – Burnt Sienna Piano; very slightly different in body type to 1st but still a quality youngster. Attractive head & expression, good in neck length flowing into a well set front although he can sometimes stand producing a slight dip behind his shoulders. Good in body length & depth, well ribbed back flowing into correctly angled rear quarters. Moved out well.
3rd Harris’ – Zoraden Surprise Party.
