The Japanese Spitz Club Open Show 19 June 2016

Firstly I must sincerely apologise for the delay in submitting this critique. My thanks to the Japanese Spitz Club for the invitation to judge their open show, it was a real honour and I was delighted with the quality of the entrants. The show had a lovely atmosphere and I wish to thank the exhibitors for supporting my appointment.

MPD (2,0)

1st Jones’ Llwyni Simba Stop N’ Stare RDB & RBIS & BMPIS & BPIS. An eye catching youngster with lots of appeal. Masculine head of good proportions with dark expressive eye and neat well set ears. Well proportioned body, with strong neck and good tail. Good forelegs and well muscled rear, into neat feet. Moved straight to and fro with excellent sidegait. Presented in excellent condition and handled to advantage. Didn’t let up showing, which gave him the edge in the challenge for RBIS.

2nd Mott & Newton’s Maemuki Captain Of Destiny At Anlemar (Imp). Another promising youngster, though not as well schooled as 1. Smaller made with sufficient bone for size and good overall proportions. Correct head with neat ear and correct eye. Not as positive on the move as 1 today.

PD (3,1)

1st Jones’ Llwyni Keep Watching Pumbaa. Litter brother to MPD winner and a bigger example. Well boned for size. Masculine head with correct dark eye and black pigment, though would prefer a smaller ear. Not carrying full coat today. Moved soundly which gave him his class.

2nd Mott & Newton’s Anlemar Majic Moment. Good bone for size and good overall body proportions. Preferred the head proportions of this boy, with correct expressive dark eye and neat well set ears. Well coated and carrying well plumed tail. Gave his handler a hard time on the move, which affected his performance and appearance.

JD (3,2)

1st Bambridge’s Hachiko Of White Stars Shine. Well constructed, masculine dog with appealing nature. Presented in fabulous coat of correct texture. Good bone for size. Good head though tended to hold ears a little wide set, and would prefer eye a shade darker. Moved out soundly with light nimble action. Well plumed tail.

ND (1,0)

1st Mott & Newton’s Maemuki Captain Of Destiny At Anlemar (Imp) (2nd in PD)

PGD (2,0)

1st Ferry’s Tawvale Yukihito For Ferrybelle. Well constructed boy although I would prefer a “bit more” of him. Good proportions though tends to stand a tad long. Correct wedge shaped head with good eye, dark pigment and neat well set ears. Well angled front and rear hindquarters. Well presented, though not in full coat.

2nd Moody & Mott’s Anlemar Hubble Bubble. Bigger made dog than 1, with bone proportionate to size. Carrying a bit extra body weight. Strong masculine head of good proportions with dark eye & pigment, and good ears. Well coated and well plumed tail. Positive in rear movement and sidegait, but front action could have been more positive.

LD (2,0)

1st Prout’s Kessaku Mr Boombastic. Well constructed dog, of good size with good bone. Not quite balanced in head, with slight length to muzzle. Neat ears and correct eye shape, though could be darker. Moved out well with sound action. Shown in full coat and good condition.

2nd Nicholls’ Cavitzs Its All In The Game. Stronger head type than 1. Ears well set, though could be smaller. Good bone for size. Well coated on body though, lacking in tail plumage. Moved with light nimble action.

OD (4,1)

1st Aston, Bradley & Bowen’s Ch Charney Precious Gift for Kumiko BD & BOB & BIS. Had the privilege to judge this dog as a puppy, and watch him go onto PG3, so it’s very pleasing to see that early promise at maturity. An attractive showman, presented in immaculate condition and handled to advantage. Excellent overall body proportions, with bone proportionate to size. Good neck, strong back and well set, well plumed tail. Strong masculine head with correct eye and neat well set ears. Covered the ground positively with smooth action.

2nd Maslowski & Craig-Woodward’s Dunlins Noble Viking of Houndbrae (Imp). Another quality exhibit with lots to like. Good overall body proportions and bone for size. Correct head with good eye and neat well set ears. Moved out well. Lacking the coat and showmanship of 1.

3rd Fraser’s Leymun Teikou Boy

VD (1,0)

1st Aston, Bradley & Bowen’s Ch Surianne Crystal Charmer. A worthy title holder. Moved out well with smooth, nimble action. Good overall body proportions, correct head with neat ears. Proportionate bone for size. Well coated and well presented.

MPB (3,2)

1st Church’s Sanyinko Silver Spirit. A developing youngster with adequate bone for size. Feminine head, which could be fuller in muzzle. Dark eye and pigment. Moved with light nimble action.

PB (5,0)

1st Chudley’s Kessaku Penelope Pitstop BPB. A promising youngster with a correct head and endearing expression. Correct dark eye and neat well set ears. Good overall proportions and nice bone for size. Well handled and presented in firm condition. Covered the ground with balance on the move.

2nd Aston, Bradley and Bowen’s Charney Haruna At Glamglow. Another quality exhibit, whom I felt just lacks balance in head at this stage compared with 1. Good bone for size, in proportion. Moved out well with positivity but a little close coming toward. Well coated with good plumed tail. Well handled and nicely presented.

3rd Kirton’s Anlemar Penny Lane

4th Turner’s Kessaku Patricia Pending at Mayumi

5th Fraser’s Tawvale Ami

JB (4,2)

1st Nicholls’ Cavitzs Take It Easy. Feminine head of good proportions with correct eye and ear. Little long cast. Moved out well, but throwing front slightly. Well set plumed tail.

2nd Turner’s Melinas Viva La Vida at Lilryecontye. Stronger head type than one with expressive eye, correct ear, and good pigment. Handler would benefit from more schooling.

NB (2,0)

1st Craig-Woodward’s Dunlins Penelope Jane of Houndbrae. Back in the ring after a litter of puppies and she was bang out of coat but presenting a pleasing outline. Good head proportions and nice bone for size. Sweet expression and darkest of eyes, and neat ears. Moved out well with balance. Showed her heart out.

2nd Jones’ Masami Skye of Llwyni. An honest bitch, with lots of qualities, but lacking presence today. Nice head with good expression, though would prefer a neater ear and darker pigment. Well coated and presented in good condition.

PGB (4,1)

1st Moody’s Anlemar Dream Wave at Taoist. Nicely put together, with good bone, though could do with slimming down. Good angles front and rear, though throwing front legs a little as watching handler on the move. Nice head with dark eye and excellent pigment but I’d prefer a smaller ear. Well coated, and well set, well plumed tail.

2nd Ferry’s Taoist Touch and Tell. A nice bitch, that moved soundly. Correct head, with dark eye, but ear could be neater. Not in full coat.

3rd McNair’s Houndbrae Cute as a Button

LB (4,1)

1st Ferry’s Ferrybelle Natsu Hikari RBB. An utterly feminine exhibit with pure gleaming white coat. Expertly handled and presented in excellent condition. Moved soundly with positive action front, side and rear. Correct head with dark expressive eye and neat well set ear, would prefer a tad more fill in muzzle. Nice bone for size.

2nd Bambridge’s Kessaku Raspberry Tart. Another lovely exhibit. Good head with neat well set ear, correct eye and dark pigment, giving a sweet expression. Moved out soundly.
