Dalmatian critiques

Judge: Mr Colin Goodswen (Alphadal)

I would like to thank the committee for inviting me to judge my wonderful breed at this very efficiently run show.  The day was challenging because of the extreme cold, but everyone seemed to be in very high spirits and I know that I certainly had a lovely day.  A big thank you also to my two stewards Yvette and Pam who both helped to keep the ring running perfectly smoothly.  Finally, many thanks to all the exhibitors that gave me such a fabulous entry.  All exhibits had the correct bite and displayed excellent temperaments.

Puppy D/B (2 entries, 0 absentees)

1st Smith's Rapanooey Sugar Donut, handsome 6 month old black spotted male.  I later found out that this was his (and his handler's) very first show, and they both coped fantastically.   Well decorated on an immaculately white background with correct head and good length of neck.  Good angles fore and aft, nice front and good depth of chest for his age.  Nice straight front legs down to tight cat-like feet.  Although this lovely puppy is still loose (correctly so for his age) his movement was impressive... he held his top line on the move, his smooth action and drive was shown off perfectly by his more than capable handler.  Pleased to award my Best Puppy and went onto achieve Puppy Group 4.

2nd Powell's Kentwone Hold On Tight, 9 month old Liver spotted bitch.  Moderate angles fore and aft but overall well balanced.  Pretty girl with nice head and lovely amber eyes.  Difficult to assess her movement today as she was bouncy and exuberant, but I'm sure she will do well in the future.

Junior D/B (3 entries, 2 absentees)

1st Hobbs & Whiting's Rapanooey Ranunculus, 16 month old Liver spotted male.  Would prefer slightly more body but overall an impressive boy.  Very good angles front and rear with good length of neck to well defined withers.  Excellent on the move, holding his level topline whilst he drives around the ring with ease.

Post Graduate D/B (6 entries, 2 absentees)

1st Healey & Wheaton's Hebemor Ruby Tiger from Acinonyx JW, 3 year old Liver spotted bitch.  I was very impressed with this girl today, she powered around the ring and was handled to perfection.  Lovely head and expression with good colour of eye.  Moderate rear angulation but overall well balanced.  Excellent spring of rib, well muscled with nice 2nd thigh.  Awarded RBOB.

2nd Blissett's Kystuno Warners King, 2 year old black spotted male.  Good head with correct stop.  Good tail set.  Well angled with good amount of 2nd thigh.  Outmoved by 1 today.

3rd Bradford & Aaberg's Perdita's Act Rise.

Open D/B (7 entries, 2 absentees)

1st White's Sophtspot La De Da at Belsmard, 21 month old black spotted bitch.  I have admired this girl since her show career began and today when I got a chance to go over her, she didn't disappoint at all.  Stunningly decorated with lightly 'hand painted' spots on a perfect white coat.  Correct head head with nice dark eyes.  Good length of neck to well defined withers and level topline which she carries perfectly at all times.  Well laid back shoulders which presents the correct amount of fore chest.  Moved with effortless rhythmic action, powering around the ring.  Handled to perfection.  Delighted to award BOB and thrilled to see her awarded Group 2.

2nd Hobbs & Whiting's Sophtspot Knockout at Rapanooey, 2 year old black spotted bitch.  Pretty girl with good head and nice eye colour.  Nice length of neck to well defined withers.  Good level topline and correct tail set.  Moderately angled fore and aft.  Moved with great freedom, reach and drive. Perfectly handled.
