Manchester Terriers

I’ve had a long time interest in the breed after having organised a joint breed seminar for the British Manchester Terrier Club and the English Toy Terrier club some twenty years ago. I was delighted to judge the breed again and not having judged them for a while, all the dogs were new to me. Mindful that the dogs may not have had much if any experience in the ring due to covid, I was pleased to note that they all settled down to the task in hand with a little patience and encouragement.

PD (2,1abs)

1. Oxley’s Digelsa Double Agent. Striking and very smart masculine dog who is so well developed for his age and showing balance throughout. Lovely wedge shaped headpiece with dark almond eyes and ears set on top. Good shoulders and front assembly, strong topline and loin with correct set tail. Put down in fantastic coat and muscle condition with well-defined markings and rich tans. Moved out with purpose. Close up in the challenge, just felt the LD winner had the slight edge on front movement today, but a top quality boy. Pleased to award him the RDCC & BPIB.

1. Plant’s Plantocracy Bold Bruce JW. Another smart boy with a masculine wedge shaped head, well placed ears and correctly shaped eyes. Straight front with good depth of chest, and well-made muscular hindquarters enabling him to move off with good ground covering action. Correct topline, firm loin leading to a well set on tail. Shown in great coat and condition with rich tans and well defined markings. Still some developing to do I would think, but the quality and breed stamp is there.

1. Knight’s Talanors Typically Elite. Quality stamped all through this eye catching and handsome young male. Pleasing out line with nice crest to his neck into well laid shoulders, correct topline with slight arch over loin in to well-muscled rear. Plenty of substance and bone too. He has a lovely wedge shaped head, well placed ears and dark almond eyes, excellent bite which could despatch a rat or two I’m sure. Moved out very well with good ground covering action and drive from behind. Presented in fit condition with glossy coat and rich tans. Attentive and responsive to his handler, he pulled out the stops to take the DCC & BOB

1. Barlow’s Talanors Time for Magic. Another fine example of the breed, with a masculine well shaped head, dark keen almond eyes and very good ear set. Straight front, good depth of brisket, good crest to neck leading into well laid shoulders, with slight arch over loin leading to well set on tail. Put down in excellent condition with a glossy coat, rich tans and well defined markings. Moves with drive and fluidity around the ring. Close up in the challenge, it really was splitting hairs, just slightly preferred the expression of the pup, but could easily change places.

2. Warner’s Talanors Time for Fun. Sibling to winner and much to like also, slightly bigger built throughout with well-balanced lines. Lovely masculine wedge shaped headpiece with very good ear set and dark almond eyes. Straight front with firm topline and well-muscled quarters, would just like a touch more tuck up. Presented in gleaming coat and moved around the ring with good drive from behind.

3. Spain’s Ch Talanors Diamond Tornado.

1. Oxley’s Black Bandits Anything Goes at Digelsa TAF NAF. Caught my eye as soon as she entered the ring. She has a real stamp of quality about her and well developed for her tender age. Stunning well balanced feminine headpiece with good ear placement and dark almond eyes, excellent strength of muzzle and jaw, she looked like she could do the job she was breed for. Straight legs, well developed ribs, firm loin and muscular hindquarters, leading to smoothly set on tail. Presented in gleaming coat and fit hard condition. Not always putting her best foot forward today, but for her lovely breed type and overall development she won the class.

2. Knight’s Talanors Destiny Angel. Built on slightly finer lines than winner and not quite so forward in terms of body development yet but another who is full of quality and breed type. Lovely and very typical feminine headpiece, well placed ear and dark almond eyes. Straight legs, lovely reach of neck, well laid shoulders, brisket developing and correct topline. All topped off with glossy coat and good colouration. Moved out well and shows much promise.

JB (1)

1. Forshaw’s Jandor Moonlight Melody. Neat and very feminine girl who took a while to settle, but when she did she has a lovely balanced outline and shapely body. Pleasing feminine wedge shaped head, dark almond eyes and well set on ears. Good front, neck and shoulders, with correct topline and well-muscled hindquarters. Would like a little more substance. Moved out well when settled, she’ll need time to develop in body and gain confidence.

PGB (2)

1. Watkins’s Ruffagga Bewitching Girl. Feminine wedge shaped head with good ear set and dark almond eyes. Straight front, well laid shoulders leading to a good topline and well-made rear. Shown in lovely condition with glossy coat and good tans. Needs to settle a little on the move and get into more into her stride.

2. O’Boyle’s Plantocracy Harmione. Lovely feminine wedge shaped headpiece, ears weren’t so settled as the winner today, dark almond eyes and strong bite. Well put together and shown in lovely coat with rich tans. Moved out soundly.

1. Straughan’s Talanors Time To Shine At Mannikai. Quality and very smart girl full of breed type. Balanced feminine wedge head, well set ears and dark almond eyes. Straight front, leading into good shoulders, well sprung ribs and correct topline. Nicely muscled hindquarters and good overall bone and substance. Shown in great coat and condition with gleaming coat and rich tans. Moved out well with positive drive from behind. She showed her socks off for her handle. Close up in the challenge, splitting hairs, pleased to award her the RBCC, could easily change places with the OB winner.

OB (2)

1. Brown & Davies’ Digelsa Dark Indulgence at Wystry JW. Super type, quality stamped all through. Lovely feminine head wedge shaped, high set ears, dark almond eyes and excellent bite. Very good front assembly, straight well marked legs, very good prints. Neck has a nice crest, leading into well laid shoulders, good depth of brisket, good topline and firm loins. Put down in great coat and body condition. Scored highly for her sound and accurate movement. Quite the showgirl too, alert and attentive to her handler. I was pleased to award her the BCC. Delighted to hear afterwards that this was her 3rd and crowning CC, many congratulations she deserves here title.

2. Knight’s Talanors Diamond Treat. Slightly finer built than winner. A quality girl and so well put together with an elegant balanced outline. She has a lovely wedge shaped head, dark almond eyes, her ears were a touch heavier and lower placed than the winner. Good front with straight well marked legs and tight feet. Good length of neck, well placed shoulders, correct topline with slight lift over the loins. Well bent stifles with well-muscled hind quarters. Put down in lovely coat and condition. Moved sound in all directions.
