Yeovil and District Canine Society

Open Show Saturday 13th July

Thank you to the committee of this fantastic, friendly and well organised show for the appointment to judge originally the Border Terriers, but due to the group judge Colin Richardson falling fowl to a dodgy Chinese I was extremely honoured to be able to cover his breed classes with Darwin Martin completing the AV and Group. I wish Colin a speedy recovery. Thank you to the exhibitors for bringing their dogs.

Parson Russell Terrier

Graduate 2 entries 1 absent

1st and BOB Digaden Get Up and Go (Mrs L Steele)

Two and Half year old bitch with very striking head marking, half tan half white giving her a very pretty appearance, well placed ears and good scissor bite. Shown in good harsh crisp white jacket with thick pelt. Narrow and ranging. Movement was hard to assess due to her finding the ground far more interesting than performing for me, Typical Terrier spirit!

Open 1 entry 1 absent

Dandie Dinmont Terrier

Open 6 entries 5 absent

1st and BOB Miss Sophie Di Luna Caprese at Torbrae JW ShCM (Imp Deu) (Miss M France)

Stood alone in what was a well entered class, but worthy of her placement. 2 year old Mustard Bitch, typical head with large round eye and soft expression, presented in good harsh coat with downy top knot. Good in front with well set on tail used on the move. Another exhibit who wasn’t co-operating on the move due to the surface but once settled and stopped bunny hopping through the grass drove out with purpose.

Manchester Terrier

Open 1 entry

1st and BOB Limoncello Cecilia Beaux ShCM (Miss W Heller)

Graceful 4 year old bitch that meets the standard well. Wedge shaped head with strong scissor bite set on strong arching neck in to good shoulders. Well placed ears used to enhance her expression. Straight front and perfectly symmetrical ‘thumbprints’ Moved really well around the ring driving from the rear with reach in front. I really liked her.

Border Terrier

Puppy 3 Entries

1st and BPIB PG3 Barkanellie Flashheart (Mr I & Mrs J Taylor)

Very attractive 10 month old grizzle and tan bitch. Attractive head with strength of muzzle, scissor bite, small V shaped ears dropping to cheek. Very narrow with good lay of rib into loin which was OK but wouldn’t want her to carry anymore length but is balanced. Stands on small cat like feet. Shown in good double coat of harsh texture. Moved well. Easy to span which gave her the edge over 2nd placed in this class and also her litter brother for Best Puppy.

2nd Earthtaw Keep Smiling (Haydon & Gibbings)

Super 9 month old Blue and Tan dog who when walked into the ring I thought would be my winner, he has real ring presence with out being flashy. Larger framed than 1st and carrying more bone and condition which unfortunately made him harder to span. Excels in head with a true vaminty glare. In harsh jacket with ticking coming on his muscular thighs. Well set on tail used on the move which he certainly does. A lot to like.

3rd Bluebabel Indian Sunset (Mr K & Mrs N Yeates)

Just six months so very much a baby. She is a Blue and Tan with a fabulous coat. Pretty head but bite could be better. Move ok once settled but again struggled with the surface so didn’t make it easy to assess.

Junior 5 entries

This was a top quality class. A pleasure to judge.

1st and RBOB Clydebeck Garnet (Mr M Mrs S & Miss J Taylor)

17 month old Grizzle and Tan bitch who I liked a lot and pushed hard in the challenge for BOB. Typical head with good expression, well filled eye, small ears, large black nose and good scissor bite. Presented in harsh double jacket that you could see would stand up to all weathers. Good rib to loin and easily spanned. Moved very well.

2nd Earthtaw Kafir Lily ( J Haydon & V Gibbings)

Another shown in fantastic jacket. 13 month old bitch. Extremely pretty bitch who holds her profile while on the move and standing. Lovely top line and tail set. Was very unlucky to meet 1 today very similar in type and style I am sure they will switch places on many occasions.

3rd Cedarhill Front of House (Mr F & Mrs H Freeman)

Red Grizzle dog who was again unlucky to meet the two bitches today. Presented well with coat but not quite the density of the girls. Liked his head which houses large white teeth set in a strong scissor bite. He is very narrow with a good front and well muscled hind quarters. Unfortunately his handler wasn't on quite the same form as he was today.

Res Barkeneille Blackadder (Mr I & Mrs J Taylor)

VHC Botterox Protronus (Miss S Hillman)

Graduate 4 entries

1st and BOB G3 Thistlestone Glenfiddich (Mrs J May)

Masculine grizzle and tan male that could not be ignored. Strong head with good bite, correct ears and strength of jaw. Well set shoulders and upper arm allowing him true reach in his front action when covering the ground in profile. I could span him due to his good rib shape. Presented in good coat with a real handful of pelt. A pleasure to go over. Please to see him go Group 3 in a large terrier group.

2nd Rodzina Hazelnut ( Mrs R Mitchell)

Very close between 2nd and 3rd. Absolutely fell in love with the 6 year old bitches head to me it is ‘a head like an otter’ and she sports a super short carrot tail. She is also of a lovely size and one of the easiest to span today. Moved well for her young handler they

obviously have a real rapport.

3rd Tufterslodge Tea N Cake (Mrs J Phipps)

One I have judge before and I still admire just couldn’t match 1 for over all balance or coat. Blue and Tan dog rising 3 years old. Again had a lovely rapport with his young handler, moving well around the ring with true tracking motion. Another one with a cracking short carrot tail well set on and used on the move. Good head and expression, small ears and scissor bite.

Res Tea at Tufters (Mrs J Vaughan)

Limit 1 entry

1st Badgerbeck Tiny Dancer at Bluebabel (Mr K & Mrs N Yeates)

Stood alone but worth her placing. 3 year Blue and Tan bitch shown today in full deep jacket you lose you fingers in it. Extremely pretty head with correct bite but could use her ears better tending to fly them when on the move. Stands on small catlike feet. Nice size and easily spanned. Moved Ok but not really settled.

Open Dog 3 entries 1 abs

1st Moleschamber Finlaggan (Mr B Dennis)

Another I have judged before as a younger dog and he has matured into a very upstanding masculine male. Strong headed of type. In a good coat with thick pelt. Moved well holding his shape with power from his well muscled rear. For me there is enough of him but a good honest Border. Felt he had just lost a bit of spark come the end for BOB.

2nd Cedarhill Front of House (Mr F & Mrs H Freeman)

Moved so much better in this class and really pushed for the top slot, just lost out on maturity to 1

Open Bitch 3 entries 1 absent

1st Clydebeck Solitaire (Mr M Mrs S & Miss J Taylor)

Grizzle and tan bitch of 5 years old another bitch so well presented. In good jacket of harsh consistency. Typical head with scissor bite. Nice size, easy span and good neck. Moved around the ring effortlessly. I thought her kennel mate slightly cleaner in shoulder when in came to RBOB.

2nd Workers Playtime (Mrs S Waller)

Thanks you so much bringing her today.

11 year old light grizzle bitch who shows that this breed only gets better with age. Moved around the ring with a true tracking motion that covered it well. Carrying her short carrot tail straight off her back. Still sporting a scissor bite with good teeth. Beautiful head although greying a little has a varminty expression. A true pleasure.
