Best in Show

Many thanks to the committee for this very kind invitation and my efficient stewards for making it easy.

The 12 breeds judges sent through some lovely exhibits for me and it was not an easy choice to split some. However after shortlisting I chose as Best in Show Whelan & Youngs lovely Beardie, Ch. Corimist Cover Girl who looked very easy moving around the big ring and really used her hocks well to provide the drive and reach needed for a worker. She is so well muscled and her angulation is balanced, a super topline held on the move, with ribs well back, all this plus a well proportioned head with broad flat skull, strong muzzle and large well set eyes. Presented in full coat and immaculate, what more could you want. Res. Best in Show Ivaldis Gordon Setter, Sh.Ch/Ita/Int. Ch Ludstar Frederick Frankenstein also has a good head with nice length, roundess to skull, well set and held ears, defined stop, large open nostrils and good dark eyes. Looked good in stance with balanced angulation, good bone and strong loin muscle all aiding his good ground covering movement and he also used his hocks to advantage. Again presented in A1 condition with gleaming coat, pushed hard for the top spot but just could not get past the Beardie today.

Best Puppy in Showagain a lovely line up but this time topped by the Golden Retriever Williamsons Sandti The Sweet Spot, angulation was balanced for age and his movement was quite positive all ways, for a youngster, lovely head, super dark eye, quality bone and good feet. Lovely coat of good texture. A very promising exhibit who should mature well. Res. Best Puppy in Show Constantines Deerhound, Cotherstone Serenade at Kaleginy, what a cracker, for a big breed baby, he is well put together with nice length to his head, strong neck and surprisingly well balanced for age, however, once he moved he earned this spot, looked easy with an elastic gait with spring which takes your breath away, came very close to taking the top spot.

Best Veteran in Show - Williams Smooth Collie, Ch. Foxearth Forward Thinking for McClelland caught my eye as he entered the ring with his ground covering stride and smooth action. In going over him I found he was very well muscled with good quality bone, lovely tight feet, good depth of chest and strong loin. A good clean wedge head with slight stop and well set slightly oblique eye. A Lovely example of the lasting quality of this breed. Reserve Best Veteran Burscoughs Skye Terrier, Glorfindel Secret Shadow at Kilfinan 8 years old and presented in lovely condition, long body, level topline, deep ribs and strong short loin. Good head with strength and good muzzle, well set and held ears. Good muscle tone throughout and on the move not too much lift of the feet yet covered the ground so well.

Best Junior in Show - Percys Cairn Terrier, Winetta Quest for Fame, liked his size and overall shape, well muscled, good thighs and balanced angulation, just 14 months old but already a very energetic mover and he also has a well furnished head, with good stop, well placed eyes and 'cheeky' expression and coat of good texture. Very promising future I think. Res. Best Junior Peirsons Beardie, Denters Whirlwinds Broadway Baby (Imp) another very promising youngster again 14 months old. Angulation and muscle appropriate for age, head already feminine and well proportioned, chest still needs to fill out and movement just needs to firm up a little but that will come with time, everything is right for her age. Will watch her with interest.
