Hitchin & District Canine Society 21st April 2024. Firstly I would like to thank the committee of Hitchin for inviting me to judge. I had a super (if a tad cold!) day and some lovely entries. I would also like to thank my steward who kept things going throughout the day. I would also like to thank all the exhibitors who entered under me. Greenland Dog Class 354 Puppy 0 (0) Class 355 Junior 0 (0) Class 356 Post Graduate 0 (0) Class 357 Open 3 (0) 1 Blaney’s ESP/INT Ch Fenrirkin Can’t be Late ShCEx Sui JCH. Brown and White bitch of sound construction with well proportioned powerful wedge shaped head with a moderate stop. Good muscling over all. Appropriate length of neck. Just enough bone. Won this class on movement today but 1 and 2 could change place on another day. Good to see sufficient power and drive. Slightly lacking in coat but what she had was good quality. BOB 2 Blaney’s ESP/SUI/IR/INT Ch Suna-Sanik’s Electrict Noah of Fenrirkin (Imp Nor). All male this black and white boy. He can clearly do what he was intended to do but just did not settle so well in the size of ring. Good masculine broad wedge shaped head, ears firm and well furred. Again, good muscling throughout. Body proportions as they should be. Good bone throughout and strong feet. Coat texture good. 3 Blaney’s SUI/IR Ch Suna-Sanik’s Freidige Alice Av Fenrirkin (Imp Nor). Finnish Lapphund Class 162 Puppy 0(0) Class 163 Junior 1 (1) Class 164 Postgraduate 2 (1) 1. Birk’s Pavoskas Galena. Stood alone. Pretty brown shaded girl with a good head – good wedge with clearly defined stop. Eye set oval with good soft expression. Ear set as it should be and nice length of neck. Well laid back shoulders and level back with just sufficient depth of brisket. Muscling front and back ok. Tail set good and moderate rear angulation and brisk movement. BOB. Class 165 Open 0 (0) Shetland Sheepdog Class 166 Puppy 1 (1) Class 167 Junior 1 (0) 1. Cheal’s Valdosta Galadriel at Faemadra JW. Pretty shaded sable bitch with a pleasing head. Good flat skull, moderate stop, good set of ears and oblique eye set, all making for the expression which distinguishes this breed. Just enough neck. Good level topline on the move with a brisk economical movement. Low set tail reaching hocks and abundantly furred. Good depth of rib. BOB. Class 169 Open 1. Cheal’s Carolelen Composer at Faemadra. Pleasing head with good level planes and moderate stop. Oblique eye set but preferred the ear set of the Junior. Good length of neck and quality of coat. Good straight front. Moved OK. Preferred tail set of Junior. Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) Class 170 Puppy 1 (0) 1. Spalding’s Brownieglen Hot Spoon Trix. Tricolour boy who really caught my eye with his attitude and movement. Totally workmanlike on the move free and active with a good level topline. Good length of neck. Super head for his age, with a decent breadth of skull between the ears, well set eyes and ears. Good spring of ribs, ample bone, medium body but still a lot of developing to do. I will be interested to see him as he matures. BPIB and pleased to see him go RBPIS. Class 171 Post Graduate 1 (0) 1. Down’s Elessar Royal Design. Sable bitch with feminine foxy style head with moderate stop and flat skull. Well set eyes with alert expression and ears also well set. Neck length good. Close fitting elbows and good bone throughout. Good depth of chest and good level topline on the move. Strong loin. Moved out well. BOB. Class 173 Open 3 (0) 1. Down’s Elessar Royal Coronet Tricolour girl in partial coat but the quality of what she had was spot on. Brisk and businesslike on the move with right length of leg and good bone throughout. Good foxy style head with moderate stop and appropriate proportions. Eyes well set. Enough length of neck. Angulation good, won this class on movement. RBOB 2. Aylott’s Holly Pippin at Barwal. Tricolour girl with lots to like but struggled today as distracted by her companion in the ring which meant she did not show herself to her best advantage. Good level topline on the move with ample bone front and back. Good deep chest. Moved out well when she settled. 3. Aylott’s Barwal Badger Boy AVNSC Pastoral Class 173 Puppy 5 (0) 1. Mill’s Kerjalee Evan Sent Old English Sheepdog, male who won this class on his movement. Super effortless extension and drive. Showing a strong square outline and gently rising topline. Head developing well with good stop and square skull. Good length of neck leading to well laid shoulders and good straight forelegs. Liked his depth of chest. Quality of coat as it should be with good harsh texture. BPIB 2. Leggett’s Mellowdee Sapphire Moon Avec Meldale Old English Sheepdog girl who hard pressed one but just preferred the movement on 1. Lots to like with good square head and length of neck. Angulation back and front good with a strong loin. Quality of coat also excellent with good harsh texture. 3. Beadle’s Aleski Pink Fizz at Kizmar. Class 175 Junior 4 (2) 1. Wilson’s Jendade Precious Secret. Briard girl who moved out with an effortless, supple movement that I enjoyed watching. Good slightly rounded skull with clearly defined stop. Eye placement correct. Good length of neck leading to well angulated shoulders. Good bone throughout. Correct level topline with appropriate slope of croup. 2. Leggett’s Mellowdee Sapphire Moon Avec Meldale. Old English Sheepdog. 2nd in Class 173 Class 176 Post Graduate 3 (2) 1. Chapman’s Konatian Baggy Trousers. GSD still a young boy with some maturing to do. Strong sound movement without change in backline. Nice almond shaped eyes and good proportions on the head. Ears set high. Good length of neck and leading to well muscled shoulders. Bone OK. Good deep chest. BOB Class 177 Open 3 (1) Two strong contenders in this class where the decision was splitting hairs. 1. Challinor’s Shanlimore Marvin. Pyrenean Mountain Dog still a relative youngster but strongly built boy with unhurried free flowing movement. Strong head with correct proportions. Strong muzzle with lovely almond shaped eyes. Ear set correct. Strong boning throughout with correct angulation. Good broad muscular loin leading to slightly slope into tail. Hind quarters strong and muscling OK. RBOB 2. Down’s Elessar Blue Diamond JW. Welsh Corgi Cardigan Uber smart 20 month old merle corgi. Unlucky to meet 1. Moved out well with characteristic briskness and very workmanlike with lovely level topline. Good hard texture on coat. Liked her foxy head. Moderate stop. Good earset and muscular well developed neck. Good bone throughout with muscular elbows. Depth of chest and well sprung ribs. AV Imported Breed Register Pastoral Class 178 Open 0(0) AV Pastoral Class 179 Puppy 5 (3) 1. Leggett’s Mellowdee Sapphire Moon Avec Meldale Old English Sheepdog. 2nd in Class 173 2. Preston’s Calareto Norwegian Wood. Super feminine Border Collie girl with graceful athletic outline. Level topline on move. Good depth of chest and strong loin. Well laid back shoulders. Low set tail. Moved OK. Class 180 Junior 3 (2) 1. Leggett’s Mellowdee Sapphire Moon Avec Meldale. Old English Sheepdog. 2nd in Class 173 Class 181 Post Graduate 1 (0) 1. Chapman’s Konatian Baggy Trousers. 1st in Class 176 Class 182 Open 2 (2) Class 183 Veteran 3 (1) 1. Tannsley’s Bilyara Ice Maiden VW. 12 year old Border Collie who did not look or move like her age. Presented in good condition. Nice broad head with ears well positioned and well set oval eyes giving the correct expression. Angulation back and front good with just enough neck. Coat correctly textured. 2. Nolcini’s Ch Broadmaynes Eclipse to Nalmacdon JW ShCM ShCEx VW. Another 12 year old German Shepherd presented in super condition. Good weather resistant coat. Loved this boy’s head which was masculine but not coarse with good width of skull producing a good wedge shape overall. Eye set was good and ears firm in texture. Just did not move out as well as 1 on the day. Pastoral Group 1. Border Collie Bartlett’s Cwenhapus Celestial Beauty JW I am sure I can’t add much to the breed judges critique. This girl caught my eye with her balance and clean lines and understated excellent movement. Super feminine head. All in all a lot to like. 2. Finnish Lapphund Birk’s Pavoskas Galena 1st in Class 164 3. Rough Collie Stillwell’s Wicani That’s Amore With Bellawave A complete picture here with plenty of glamour. Head proportions and expression correct. Moderate bone, good muscling and moved out well. 4. Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) Down’s Elessar Royal Design 1st in class 171. Pastoral Puppy Group 1. Welsh Corgi (Pembroke) Spalding’s Brownieglen Hot Spoon Trix 1st in Class 170 2. Old English Sheepdog Mill’s Kerjalee Evan Sent 1st in Class 174 3. Rough Collie Stillwell’s Wicani That’s Amore With Bellawave Group 3 in Adult group 4. Border Collie Bartlett’s Cwnhapus Jewel in the Crown Another quality Border Collie. Elegant, understated with movement that was efficient and effective for working all day. Feminine head. Quality coat. Angulations front and back good. AV Good Citizen Dog Stakes. 45 1. Saluki Hamilton’s Int/Lux/Bel Ch Alishamar Roxane JW (Imp Bel) This girl was quite striking moving with the easy grace you would expect. Very feminine head and lovely outline. In superb condition. Good slope of pasterns. 2. Basset Griffon Vendeen (Petit) Townsend’s Afterglow Curtain Call Avec Roxastanff This boy had real character. Moved with drive and was at one with his handler. Super weather resistant coat. Liked his construction as well. Well muscled. 3. Pyrenean Mountain Dog Challinor’s Shanlimore Marvin 4. Staffordshire Bull Terrier Tomkin’s Pasgal Reach Out and Touch 5.
