Miniature Poodle Club

The Miniature Poodle Club

Open Show

21 April 2024

I was really honoured to be invited to judge this lovely club open show, and was afforded such a warm welcome and generous hospitality all day. A huge thank you to my wonderful steward Lynne for keeping the ring running smoothly , and for the entertainment! Plaudits to Richard, Suzanne, and their team for a very well run event indeed, with everything running perfectly to time and the open show starting at 1pm bang on!

Thank you to everyone who entered their poodles for me to judge; I was thrilled to bits with the entry and the depth of quality on the day was very impressive. There was a very well filled Special Beginners class which was heartening, and I hope these newer exhibitors all continue to show this lovely breed in the future.

MPD (4,2) 1 Maldavale Bielsa. Confident youngster with an air of elegance about him and delightful temperament. Well shaped head with plenty of work which is developing nicely. He is good for body and ribbing, and well angled fore and aft. Uses his sound construction to advantage on the move. 2 Joleena Magnifique Pierre. Well coated youngster who presented a more mature outline than 1 but wasn’t quite so together as him on the move on the away and back. Liked his masculine headpiece, strength in topline, and well muscled quarters. Lovely temperament.

PD (1) 1 Minamia Destiny’s Plan. Appealing youngster with super outline and many qualities. Loved his long lean head and dark expressive eyes. Well made at both ends he presents a neat square outline with good body to leg proportions. Moved out well when he settled, and as the day progressed his confidence grew. Lots of potential - should have a bright future! BPD.

JD (1) 1 Sculbrook Had To Be A Miracle. I was really captivated by this outstanding youngster who ticked all the boxes for me today. Beautifully moulded head of length and with well developed chin. Dark mischievous eyes, well set and shaped, and excellent leathers. His neck flows neatly into a well laid shoulder, and he has a strong topline and well developed ribcage with excellent forechest. Short and strong in loin, his quarters are well angled and in balance with his forehand. He produces the action one would expect on the move, light of foot and with plenty ground cover. Presented in immaculate order he stands well over his ground demanding attention. Has great body, super muscle, well maintained feet, and a perfectly tailored harsh jacket. Hope he makes up, good luck! BD & BIS.

PGD (4,1) 1 Lowashton Craster Shore. Well grown blue who is well grown and has a very abundant coat. He has a decent head shape with good chin, and lovely dark eyes. He has a well laid shoulder and is good in body and ribbing. Well muscled quarters were used to advantage on the move. 2 Holsyi’s Titan In Ice. Not quite the finish and masculinity in head of 1, this white moved out particularly well behind with strong driving action from his straight hocks. Is well bodied and nicely presented with good muscle. Feet need attention.

OD (2) 1 Sculbrook Had To Be A Miracle. 2 Raeannes Hidden Liaison. Well presented black six year old who put on a good performance and was nice to go over. Has soundness of construction and balance of angulation at both front and rear which he uses to best advantage on the move. Just preferred the head and front action of 1 today.

SpOD(AOC) (4) 1 Arrowflight Harvest Moon JW. Smart young chap who has a really endearing cheeky character that makes you smile – and keeps his handler on her toes! Lovely head proportions and great expression from his dark eyes. He is grand to go over, as each part fits neatly into the next and flows together so well. He has a good length of leg and a neat compact outline. A gassy mover with real effervescence. Called in to content for RBIS but he was just a little over excited so had to bend his paw to the BB today. A credible RBD for him, good luck in making him up – he is worthy. 2 Holsyi’s Titan In Ice. 3 Sariante Dick Grayson.

VD/B (3) 1 Calmaria One For The Money JW. Delightful young veteran with very feminine outlook and classic outline. Beautiful head with plenty of work, development in chin, and dark eyes glinting with attitude. Is well made all through with good shoulder placement, well sprung ribs, and well angled and muscled quarters. Moved out very well with length and accuracy of stride. Close up for RBB but was just a little tired in the final go around. BVIS. 2 Jencros American Start at Arianmin. Decent head on this young veteran silver who showed very well. Has dark eyes and very good pigment. Balanced in angulation fore and aft, I just felt he could have been in a firmer condition all through. 3 Chezmick Princess.

SpBD/B (8,2) 1 Michandy Love of the Game JW. Loved the elegance in outline of this black b, who moved out so well going around and really powered around the ring. Pretty headed with feminine outlook, dark eyes, long leathers. Strong in neck and topline. Has plenty of attitude which she demonstrates so well on the move where she really eats up the ground but with great carriage and lightness of foot. 2 Sumani Opal. Liked the overall shape of this young black b, who also has a good headshape. Overall very balanced with good ribbing in between. Has good with to croup and well developed first and second thigh. Handler just needs to gain confidence to show her attributes off. 3 Lowashton Craster Shore.

MPB (6,5) 1 Starianna Jessie Jay With Starmaria. This was a very well trained young b who worked so well with her skilled young handler, he really got the best from her in the ring today. Sweet feminine head with neat dark eyes. Has a well laid shoulder and development of forechest. Scores in body and ribbing. Well angled and muscled quarters. Moved out well when settled, and stands on good feet.

PB (2,1) 1 Michandy Sign Of The Times. Truly captivating young brown b with bags of attitude! Loved her feminine headpiece which is maturing on beautifully. Has dark expressive eyes have characterful expression. Beautiful lean neck leading to a well laid shoulder and neatly angled upper arm. Already well developed in forchest and rib, strong in topline, and short in loin. Has strength of croup and equal balance and angulation of hindquarters to complete the outline. Holds her shape beautifully standing and has lovely carriage on the move. Is light of foot and uses her sound construction so well on the move. Nice to see her lovely attitude keeps her handler on her toes! Standing on good feet and presented in immaculate order to finish the picture. One to watch in the future for sure, she really charmed me today! BB, BPB, RBIS, BPIS.

JB (4) What a super class of three quality youngsters, all with many positive attributes to appraise. 1 Michandy Sign Of The Times. 2 Donaska Tilted Halo. Very well presented black b who has to be gone over to really be appreciated. Beautiful long head with development of chin, and dark almond eyes with expressive glint. Has good leathers, strong neck, good topline and well set tail. Her fore and hindquarters are balanced in angulation with nothing to excess, and she is presented in great order with plenty of body! Really sound honest sort on the move, her steadiness of action and accuracy of footfall meant she was called in to challenge for RBB. Whilst her owner had to rush her back into the ring, she coped admirably with this and went even better in the final go around to take a well deserved RBB in this good company today. 3 Shanandi Fancy Dress at Myhaven.

PGB (4,2) 1 Sumani Opal. 2 Olive’s Dream. Brown presented in full coat. Decent head shape and dark eyes, enough length to neck and has strength in topline. Well ribbed back. Sound in hindquarter construction with good width of thigh. Just a shade long in outline for my prefence. Nails need attention.

OB (4,3) 1 Arianmin She Steels The Show. Well bodied silver of maturity at just over two years of age. She has dark eyes and pigment, correct bite. Well presented in coat, which is of good texture. She is well developed ribs and is in perfect body condition with correct weight and good development of muscle. Feet could be improved a little. Moved out well with happy attitude.

SpOB(AOC) (11, 5) A well filled class with some quality ladies present, headed up by three good browns. 1 Donaska Pussy Galore. Smart feminine brown with neat compact outline. Lovely head of balanced proportions, with dark eyes, good pigment, and excellent leathers. Has length and strength in neck, with well laid shoulder and firm topline. Short strong loin and well set on tail. Balanced in her angulation fore and aft, this is evident when she sets off to move as she produces a sound economic gait with accurate light footfall. Very well presented and close to top honours in the challenge today. 2 Shanandi Fancy Dress for Myhaven. Delighted to be able to appraise this glamorous young lady, who was well presented and has an imposing outline on the stack Liked her head, overall angulation and body, and outline. Has many breed attributes however I just felt she was rather stress with the situation today and perhaps not showing off to her best advantage. Has lots of like, just needs confidence and to settle to the job. 3 Brightest Hoku.
