FOR COLLIE (SMOOTH) & COLLIE (ROUGH)

SATURDAY 4TH MAY 2024

BEST IN SHOW AWARDS - SHOW 2

A wonderful warm and sunny day which was much appreciated after all the rain that we have been having of recent times, unfortunately the grass had not been able to be cut to the normal standard of this venue due to all the previous wet weather, including the previous day, but nevertheless, there was a lovely friendly party atmosphere throughout the day and I thoroughly enjoyed this appointment with quality dogs sent through by the breed judges, I was spoilt for choice.

BEST IN SHOW – Mrs J M & Mr R J Denton – CH. BRACKENHAYE HEART AND SOUL (Smooth Collie) – 4 year old tricolour bitch in excellent condition and groomed to perfection, lovely sweeping outline giving excellent balance in profile and on the move. Good, clean head planes, ears set and tipped well, good length of neck, with excellent front and rear angulation, well muscled enabling her to move with reach and drive with a lovely solid topline, definitely fit for purpose and one that could work all day if required.

RESERVE BEST IN SHOW & BEST OPPOSITE SEX IN SHOW – Ms A French – WYNELE DRESSED TO THRILL AT BRECKAMORE (Smooth Collie) – 2 and half year old top drawer and well-presented all male tricolour dog, another that excels in movement and handled to perfection. Has a distinctive male head without being deep through in back skull, with a kind eye, good stop, excellent head planes, well placed and tipped ears, good length of neck leading into excellent front assembly, excellent forechest, good length of back and tail and good bend of stifle with well muscled rear quarters to give him that drive on the move whilst keeping a solid level topline. Another that is totally fit for purpose.

BEST PUPPY IN SHOW – Mrs K & Mr M Martin – STURTMOOR ARCEUS’S LEGACY (Smooth Collie) – 10 month old very promising, upstanding male sable puppy who in my opinion oozes quality and hopefully will have a promising career ahead. Has a good head with a kind eye, good stop, well placed and tipped ears, good length of neck, needs to develop in forechest but he is still quite a baby and that will come, lovely topline good length of back and tail, good front and rear angulation with neat elbows, good depth of chest, moved with reach and drive and is going to trouble the best, stands with dignity, extremely well-schooled and handled. Could not be denied this award against the exceptionally good quality Rough Collie Puppy that was challenging him.

BEST VETERAN IN SHOW – Mr J N & Mrs V Geddes – INGLEDENE LACE N’GRACE (Rough Collie) – Quality 8 and half year-old sable rough collie bitch who is just quality throughout and presented to perfection, she has wonderful bone and substance, a lovely head with wonderful eye placement, well placed ears, good length of neck, good length of back and held a good topline on the move. Narrowly missed out on the BIS spot as she was not moving with the reach and drive that her construction would suggest she would, but for the Veteran challenge she excelled in movement and showmanship to take this top spot from the Smooth Collie Veteran.
